How Express Entry Works

Express Entry is Canada's main system for selecting skilled workers for permanent residence. Here is how the journey works, explained simply.

1

Check Your Eligibility

We review your education, work experience, and language skills to see which immigration programs you qualify for.

2

Create Your Profile

You submit a profile to the Express Entry pool. Your profile is given a score called a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score.

3

Receive an Invitation

Canada holds regular draws and invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence. This is called an ITA (Invitation to Apply).

4

Apply and Move to Canada

Once invited, you submit your full application. If approved, you receive your Permanent Resident visa and begin your new life in Canada.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For people who already have at least one year of skilled work experience inside Canada, such as those on a work permit.

If You Work in Canada

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

For skilled tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and other technical workers. A job offer or provincial nomination is required.
